Kitahama Alley

With finished renovation in 2001 this urban area this cute area offers another cute facet to the impressive Takamatsu seaside
The alley is made of old seaside warehouses, which have been made into cafes, restaurants and little shops. The atmosphere here is very unique and you enjoy a good view of the harbor, which Kitahama alley is right beside.

This place is a very fun place to spend the afternoon, and is a good break from the “classic” japan. It is a very retro area, and take you back to 1980’s with it’s cute cafes, old gaming consoles, and little things to buy.
If you are a gaming fan, you have to try the retro gaming consoles.

If you are here and want to grab a bite for lunch, I can recommend Umi cafe. Whenever I want to relax, read a book, and treat myself, I always go here, despite the little pricey money.

To get to the cafe you need to go up the stairs, and go all the way to the back and through the blue door seen here at the end.

When I first was here I had trouble finding the cafe, and walked around the building a few times, until I finally asked where I could find the umi cafe.
When you get into the cafe, they ask you to spray your hands, as well as take your temperature to make sure you are not sick.
They have both an English and a Japanese menu, so you don’t need to worry if you don’t speak Japanese. Some of the other cafes and restaurants around the area, don’t have any English options, but instead encourage you to try your hand at Japanese. And if everything else fails you can always rely on Google Translate. They do have wifi at the area, so you’ll be able to use it without any problems.

When I was there I got a cappuccino and the small beef soup. The taste of the beef stew was so delicious and it was full of flavour. Even though I got a small size there was plenty of vegetables and beef in it, and it was more than enough to fill me up.

This came to around 1200yen, which is a bit expensive, if you are living on a budget like me, but for the view, atmosphere, and quality, I don’t mind paying this once in a while.

The view from this cafe is to the Mejima Island and the harbor that can take you to that Island.
